His Excellency the Prime Minister, Christopher Slant, shares the following statement for Hokoria Day 2025:
I am still finding the right word to describe this as I write- the feeling in my heart as Hokoria marches on in its current incarnation.
I am really proud to see that Hokoria stands strong till this day. The journey was certainly tumultuous- a turbulent sea with its surging waves- but we persisted. Despite everything that has happened, we came out as a whole, a phoenix risen from the ashes. We learnt, albeit painfully, that some people will turn against you for what they claim is “for your own good”. We learnt how to bond together when cracks form, when some try to destruct us from the inside and the outside. We learnt how to defend against subversion, when it presents itself to us as legitimacy; but most importantly, we learnt how to protect our own values, ones that guided us from the formation of Hokoria until now: unity, self-determination and pride.
That’s when I realise- pride- that’s what I felt when I started writing. I couldn’t help but think about the name “Hokoria”. Hokoria- Land of the Pride- the nation we are proud of. I am proud of being a Hokorian and I am even prouder of being a servant to the Hokorian. We, the Hokorian State, has stood tall for a year and we will stand forever more and we will stand with pride.
