Public holidays are nationally recognised days on which most Government organisations and public institutions are closed.
The Ministry of Culture and Engagement oversees public holidays, including the addition or removal of dates from the official public holidays list.
The current public holidays are:
- New Year’s Day (January 1)
- Koru’s Day (March 21)
- Labor Day (May 1)
- Hokoria Day (November 1)
Serenia also observes the following additional public holidays:
- Chinese New Year 1
- Governor’s Day (May 11)

Holidays in Government
Government organisations and public institutions generally close for the duration of all public holidays. Notices are made beforehand and during these public holidays.
At the end of the year, Government organisations and public institutions close for a longer period between December 24 (Christmas Eve) and January 2 (the day after New Year’s Day). Christian holidays are not officially observed.
